Supporting Pre and Post Surgical Recovery

Chiropractic care can play a vital role in the surgical journey, whether the goal is to prepare the body for a procedure or to facilitate a more complete recovery afterward. When surgery is required—such as for a joint replacement or spinal fusion—the surrounding joints and muscles often take on extra stress to compensate for the injured area. Our focus is on optimizing the mechanics of the rest of the body to support the surgical site and improve overall outcomes.

Pre-Surgical Optimization (Pre-hab)

Preparing for surgery is about creating the strongest possible foundation. By addressing mechanical imbalances in the joints above and below the surgical site, we can help reduce inflammation and improve localized circulation. This ensures that the body is in its most resilient state, which can lead to a smoother operative experience and a faster transition into healing.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Recovery doesn't end when the procedure is over. Surgery often alters how the body moves, and scar tissue or protective guarding can lead to new biomechanical restrictions. Our post-surgical care is designed to gently restore mobility and prevent "compensatory injuries" in other parts of the body.

Our integrated approach for surgical cases includes:

To ensure the spine remains mobile without putting direct stress on the surgical site, Dr. Stupi uses different types of adjustment techniques, which are able to be done even if your mobility is affected. It's especially important after hip or knee surgery to ensure your weight is distributed evenly as you relearn to walk with proper mechanics.

To manage the soft tissue changes that follow surgery, manual therapy may be used to address muscle tightness. If appropriate, Dr. Stupi may assist with your rehab program. She frequently works with Physical Therapists in the Midtown area. These movements focus on safely restoring strength and range of motion, helping you regain independence and return to your daily activities with confidence.
